28 Days Later

I bought this film from a car boot sale the other day because I'd seen 28 Weeks Later and I knew this film had a more profound reputation for being better and it definitely was. This film covered a lot more issues in terms of human survival and the continuation of human existence. It also has a better style in the way it was shot and executed.
As far as the story goes, it is a zombie movie in essence but the meat of the film for me lies in the characters and the way they develop and interact. It sort of feels like there just happens to be a zombie apocalypse going on at the same time that drives the characters through the story. If you watch Zombieland (2009), it's a lot more glorified and humorous with an addition of a survival guide. 28 Days Later is a lot more serious and realistic but it doesn't have Bill Murray in which is a shame.
The style of the film feels like it's found footage for the some of the shots. It feels like the audience is looking through a CCTV camera or something, I think this is heavily seen when Cillian Murphy's character wakes up at the start of the film. Danny Boyle's choice of style further enhances the concept that this is a real life event and that we are eavesdropping on these characters journey.
The heart of the film very much lies in how they're going to survive and includes problems like killing friends when they turn, not being a hero, travel and the continuation of the human race. The continuous presentation of problems continuously makes the film very tense as you feel like something dramatic could happen at any moment. The final climatic sequence shows Cillian's character really come to life and shows what he's capable of with the assist of the infected.
As far as casting goes, Cillian Murphy takes the lead very well and illustrates how his character goes from quite reliant on others to being independent and ultimately the savior. Now Naomie Harris takes on the dominant female role and it's not that she's a bad actress, I just disconnect from her in films like in Skyfall and Ninja Assassin, no offence. However, I love Brendan Gleeson in this film, and his fate is a definite heart breaker. Christopher Eccleston plays the deceptive military leader very well and his other troops do there part.
Overall I would definitely recommend this film to anyone even if your not a massive fan of the genre as it contains a lot of other elements that everyone can connect to and enjoy.
